Chelsea was first settled in 1820 by Cyrus Beckwith, along with Elisha and James Congdon. The Michigan Central Railroad built a station here in 1850, which significantly established its future. It was named by Elisha Congdon after his hometown - Chelsea, Mass.

Today, Chelsea continues to be a booming community, yet retains its small town charm. Chelsea is conveniently located close to major highways which makes it an easy commute to Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan, Detroit, and other areas of Southeast Michigan.

Chelsea has a top notch school system, great local restaurants for dinning and numerous festivals throughout the year. Chelsea is also home to the Purple Rose Theatre which is owned by local resident, and Hollywood Actor, Jeff Daniels. Since opening the theatre in 1991, it has become a touchstone for live theater in the Midwest.

Newcomers would like to be the first to welcome you to your new community and we look forward to helping you get settled in to your new home.
